covid.zone
covid.zone is a visual experiment showing simulated COVID-19 spread on a world map made of dots. Starting near Wuhan, points turn red as the animation moves across the map through local, regional and occasional long-distance spread.
The animation runs in the browser using a simple randomized model. Built with Next.js, React and TypeScript, with D3-geo for map projection and SVG for the dots. Precomputed geographic data keeps the map lightweight.
The Next.js app is exported as static HTML, CSS and JavaScript and deployed to an Amazon S3 bucket.
